Palo Alto Drought-Tolerant Garden

A colorful mixture of California natives and mediterranean favorites were selected for this entry garden. The site is dominated by clay soils, and as part of the design a berm was added to provide better drainage.

An evergreen tree, Arbutus 'Marina' was selected to provide shade and screening. Yellow Asteriscus maritimus, red Penstemon gloxinioudes, Idaho Fescue, Cercis occidentalis, and Penstemon heterophyllus are some of the featured species.

The design includes three custom wood raised planter beds for growing annual vegetables. A soaker drip system was installed with a shutoff valve for each bed.
