Hillside Stabilization

California native plants form a pleasing mix of foliage colors and texture at this Los Altos Hills Midcentury Modern home planted in 2009. Bright green Dwarf Coyote Bush pairs with darker green Howard McMinn Manzanita, arching stems of Deer Grass, and cool grays of White Sage. This simple palette of plants provides year round stability for the extensive hillside area.

Up on the terrace by the pool, Deer Grass forms a meandering border that catches the sunlight. Mature Persimmon and Loquat trees blend well with the new design, along with raised beds for wildflowers. A curved concrete wall with a Western Redbud tree focal point serves as seating and creates smooth flow through the space.
