Yarrow Lawn

This sunny Mountain View front yard features a White Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) native lawn substitute installed in 2009. The yarrow lawn is tolerant of minor foot traffic and can be used for occasional dog play. Watering is about half the amount for traditional turf grass and mowing is about once every two weeks in spring, much less often in summer/fall.

The plantings around the yarrow lawn area all California natives, including gray Sandhill Sage and green Yankee Point California Lilac. Evergreen Coffeeberry plants provide privacy along the property line, Deer Grass creates a tall accent, and Hummingbird Sage fills a planting bed near the garage.
